Located at the center of the south province of Chungcheong, it neighbors with Gongju-city(to the east), Boryeong-city(to the west), Buyeo-gun(to the south) and Yesan-gun(to the north). As a Southern part of the the Charyoung Mountains, Cheongyang includes the Chilgab Mountain (561m high) and Wolsan (575m high), Gubong Mountain (180m high), U Mountain, Bibong Mountain, and Daebak mountain. Cheongyang also boasts a wide range of plain including Jangsu Plain and Ganam Plain.

Cheongyang covers an area of 479.63㎢ and has a population of 38,697 as of 2002. It neighbors with Gongju-city(to the east), Boryeong-city(to the west), Buyeo-gun(to the south) and Yesan-gun(to the north). It is composed of 1eup and 9 myeons and its county office is located in # 100, Songbang-ri, Cheongyang-eup, Cheongyang-gun.
